Where I write

Here is where I write:

It's a blessing. Out my window is an ever-changing view based on the weather and the seasons. See the birdfeeder? It's one of about 20 Tripp has hung around our house because we love birds. There are a couple others on a tree to the right, so I do lots of bird watching for inspiration. On the left of my desk are notes for a manuscript I'm working on and a little box of old business cards I use to jot down ideas I can sort through later. On the right is a statue of Joan of Arc with her praying hands clasping a sword - another source of inspiration. Plus a picture of my hubby carrying two pots of Easter lilies. He inspires me too. I have a cordless ergonomic keyboard and mouse, which I love.

On my left are some of my reference books - note the sagging shelf:

On my right are my file cabinets with printers on top:

The big one is a Hewlett-Packard 3300 all-in-one (printer, copier, scanner, fax). I highly recommend it. I've had it three years and it gets extremely heavy use and has been completely reliable. The small one is my color/photo printer.

Still to the right, when I'm sitting at my desk:

loveseat

The loveseat has a Grandma Moses type print of country scenes - duck-filled ponds, apple trees, barns, rabbits. I got it 'cause I thought the kids would love it. Half the time, someone is sitting there. In fact, sometimes my whole family is in my office talking to me, because my rule is they can interrupt me anytime unless I specially request time to concentrate. I've learned to write even when they're all around. Above the loveseat is a bulletin board with photos of family friends and readers who've sent me pictures of their families. Another source of inspiration.

Here is the rest of my office:

More books and supplies, plus a little place for my kids to use their computer along with mommy.

Now I feel like we should sit down and have some tea or something. Wish you were here!

Love,

Wow! Thanks for the tour. I love the view from your window...that would inspire me too! I'd love some tea, coming right over ;)

Beautiful, Barbara. Thanks for sharing. It looks absolutely inviting and inspiring. I like the writing tips:
1)learn to write while the kids are around 2)allow interruption unless Mom specifically asked for concentration time.
Talk about developing multi-tasking skills!

Wow! What a wonderful office! It looks inspiring and cozy at the same time. I especially liked the built in shelves/bookcases...and the view...and the Joan of Arc statue...and the pictures... And I've always wanted a shelf like the one holding your reference books --- only not sagging!

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's writing space.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's writing space.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's writing space.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's writing space.

It's not working.

Thanks for sharing.

Bruce - You are cracking me up. Ditto on your post! Barbara - What a gorgeous view. I'm jealous...in the most godly way possible.

Oh! I only meant it as a way of letting people know me better. You should have seen my first writing space ten years ago - a computer in a corner of our homeschool room, which was itself a little cubby about 7x10' with a table and chairs for five kids and a table for me in the corner.

I paid my dues!! Even so, it's more than I deserve and explains why I feel like God's special pet. But he finds ways to make us all feel that way, doesn't he?

Great view. That's worth driving down the gravel road for.
