No Frills Q&A #1

I'm getting so much mail, it occurred to me that it might be useful for others to read some of the questions and my off-the-cuff responses. These are no frills, brief and to the point. But they may be good for a quick pick-me-up. Let me know what you think.

A reader wrote:

Can I ask some mommy advice? I always feel silly talking about what a challenge motherhood is. My son is our first living child and I get so worn out some days. People always come back to me and say "well, just wait until you have two or three or ten!" I mean, I know its more difficult when there's more than one, but when you have your first baby and you're trying to work everything out, it seems exhausting sometimes. After having our son, I find that I really really love this "mommy thing" and I actually want a big family... but am I up to the challenge? I think so. Just because I find motherhood challenging and a bit exhausting, does that mean I'm not up to the task?
My reply:
No, it doesn't mean that at all. Smiles. I've been exhausted for 35 years. You just get used to it. You learn to work around it. You revise your expectations. Besides, think of all the men who do hard, exhausting work and don't end up with the rewards we mothers will see if we do our job well. Our calling in life is what it's all about. It's part of our decreasing while He increases. Motherhood is probably the most spiritually challenging work you can find. It's a constant discipline. But you grow and change. And then you encourage others who are just beginning.
