TLC seeking families with 12 or more children
This appears to be the real deal. I have verified the information with the producer of the show - see his response here.
[Please note: since I posted this, Angie brought up a question about whether or not it is legitimate - a concern since they are asking for so much information to be sent to a yahoo address. I have done a search, and though I've found this notice posted in many places, I cannot verify that it is legitimate. I have written to the address to ask for more information. Until it is forthcoming, I would suggest not responding to this blind. Also, if you've linked to or posted this somewhere else, please add a warning. I will post when I am confident there is no potential harm]
Seeking Families for TLC¹s ³Kids by the Dozen²TLC's television series "Kids by the Dozen" is seeking families with 12 or more children (at least 10 still living at home) to be featured in a new batch of shows. This new casting follows the success of three episodes profiling 12+ kid-families that aired earlier this year.
³Kids by the Dozen² is a rare and inspiring glimpse into how large families live, love, grow, and thrive. Most of all, the program documents the day-to-day ³operations² (parenting) that goes into surprisingly organized and stable large families.
SEEKING:
- Families with 12 or more children (twins or other multiples welcome)of any race, ethnicity, religion or creed.
- At least 10 children must still live at home.
- Families with colorful personalities and strong opinions, values, principles and traditions.
- Parents with interesting and unusual stories of their relationship and parenting techniques.TO BE CONSIDERED PLEASE EMAIL THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
1 - Your family name (including each parent¹s name), phone number & occupation(s).
2 - Number of children, your children¹s names, ages, and sex.
3 - The city or town your family currently lives in.
4 - The city or town any older children live in.
5 - A recent photo of your family together.
6 - A brief summary of your family story and why your family makes a good candidate for the program.EMAIL US AT: kidsbythedozen2@yahoo.com
Amy the Humble Muser (who's been desperately ill with her sixth pregnancy, but has just started posting again - hooray! and keep praying for her) sent me this. Unfortunately, since we only have 6 still at home (8 when Ben and Zach are here for the summer), we don't qualify. I say unfortunately because it sounds like this is a respectful and thoughtful attempt to see what makes big families tick.
If you apply and are on, please let us know!

I've seen two of those programs, and really enjoyed them. The programs are respectful and thoughtful, like you said, and each I saw centered around a project the family were seeing to completion (probably to give the show boundaries:). One family had one birthday party for all the children planned they wanted to keep under budget, and the other was about a community baseball tournament, where the mega family comprised most of one of the teams, of course. :) If my family qualified, I would sign up, but we aren't there yet... I hope to see more of the programs- I can learn so much from families like this.

Barbara,
Just a quick question....does this seem legit? It's a yahoo email address (anyone could set it up) and the information they ask for is very personal - phone numbers, kids names and ages,
city, family photo etc. I forwarded this to our homeschool group here without really checking it out and wanted to see what you knew.
Thanks.
Angie

I did a search on TLC's site of the word "casting", and found a half-dozen articles for casting of various shows on TLC and Discovery Channel. NONE of them were for the Kids by the Dozen show. I would venture a guess that this is not legit.
