Celebrating BOYS! A Salute to Future Fathers

The Mother's Day Album - A Down Syndrome Celebration - is now up and running. This is an album that will be forever under construction. Please feel freeto send me more pictures. I just added two today.

So on to Father's Day!

Carole%27s.jpg

The inspiration for this project came from this picture sent to me by Carole of Parenting Decisions (a great site, btw!). Remember a few weeks ago when we were talking here about how boys need adventure and opportunities to take risks in order to reach their potential? Boys truly are different and require a different mothering style. But truly, as the mother of eight sons, I have to say that raising them has helped me reach mine :)

My four-in-a-row sons, now 19-23 have all expressed how thankful they are that their dad and I understood their needs as boys. They are looking forward to becoming fathers someday themselves. The fact that they had an excellent father played a big part in that - I've got to give my husband a lot of credit.

In response to a reader's request, Tripp listed books and movies which he used to nurture their masculine spirit. And for more on the views of a once-radical feminist who was changed by watching her own boys grow, see all my entries under Boys.

I'm calling this album Celebrating BOYS! A Salute to Future Fathers. I'm envisioning it as a celebration of transcendent moments in boyhood - you know, with shovels and swords and capes and kites. Look for pictures in particular that capture the spirit that makes our sons unique.

Send your pictures to me by clicking on the Email tab above. And if anyone would like, you can make a button to announce this collaborative effort.

Father's Day is June 17!

Love,

I look forward to the photo collection. I was honored to see you post the picture of my little guy. I have three boys, so I will look through my pictures to see what else might be interesting. And thanks for mentioning my website. :-D

Well, I'll have to look and see if I have any good ones of my 3-in-a-row boys.
The picture you posted reminded me of my four -year-old boy. He comes to me in the kitchen periodically with the plastic sword he got for his birthday and asks enthusiastically, "Do you need me to kill anythig for ya'?" =)

*grin* I love that the Lord blessed us with four boys. Boys are fun. I'll have to look through my photos. . .

Don’t you think that it’s a great wonder that a 100% female species – mother – can raise a very complicated creature like a man? For a mother who bears sons, life must be very interesting. So, here’s a toast for you. You’re blessed for having those men in shining armor.
