The American Boy's Handy Book

handy%20book.jpg

This from a dad who wanted to add on to my recommendation for The Dangerous Book for Boys:

Here are some more books I like, for things for boys to do. You may want to put them on your blog.
The American Boy's Handy Book: What to Do and How to Do It
This is a great book, with things to do for little "savages" that can live in the woods for a week at a time. It is organized by year seasons.

Spring has kites, war kites, fishing, home made tackle, how to make an aquarium. Summer: knots, the water telescope, fishing, home made boats, how to rig and sail boats, soap bubbles, balloons, how to camp without a tent, birds, bird nests, traps, dogs, etc.

Winter is snowball warfare, sled, snow shoes, winter fishing, etc.

I also like the Boy Scout Fieldbook. It has horse rigs, hiking, making mukluks, camping, fires, etc all for out doors.

Oh! Yes! Now I remember the Boyz (our affectionate name for the group of four big boys - when you have a big family you tend to have names for groups of the kids) had this book and it was well-worn. It is a wonderful book - written in 1890, so way ahead of the brand-new Dangerous Book.

Read the reviews at Amazon to see what other parents had to say. And check out the used copies to save money.

Love,
