Update on adopting Natalie

Remember the Tippetts? The family working toward adopting a third child from Liberia? (see here and here)

Jennie Lou Tippet sent me this update:

Hello Barbara,

I thought I'd send you a little update on our efforts to adopt Natalie. If you check our fundraising thermometer
you'll see that we've raised $2500!! We are about 1/4 of the way to our goal. It's hard to tell now exactly where the donations are coming from as our link circulates about. But I know that you and your readers are what got things rolling for us. One of your readers (now a friend) shared a detailed letter about us with a large list which helped so much. Others have mailed in donations.

So far we have been able to pay for our orphan petition and finger printing - about $900. And we almost have enough to update our homestudy which will really enable things to move forward. Thanks again for helping to make all of this happen for Natalie and us!

Jennie Lou Tippett

PS. Thanks to anyone who prayed about the general adoption process in Liberia. The founder of our orphanage - Acres of Hope - was able to meet with the necessary people and it turns out that the process should be even smoother and more secure now than before. Liberia is a great country for international adoption!

Read the Tippetts' Thinking About Sharing and see what you think.

Remember my article on Christian materialism and greed? I wrote that on assignment, but I was convicted enough to start changing many of my habits. Sometimes it seems like there is so much need and very little we can do, but a collection of small sacrifices can make a big thing become possible: if I give up a cup of coffee or use my old makeup instead of buying new, that means a few more dollars to put toward something meaningful, like helping to make it possible for a family willing to adopt to be united with a child who needs them.

I'm too old to adopt any more children, but this sounds like something I can do.

Love,

Thanks for the update, Barbara! Such great news. It is always wonderful when God's people pool their resources to help others in need.

I look forward to reading about Natalie's homecoming. Meanwhile, it looks like the Tippetts could use some more cash...

Gratefully,

Elizabeth

How exciting for this family. I have a friend who is adopting her 5th child this Friday. Terry and her husband have 1 biological child and they have adopted 4. They are so excited for this little 8 year old boy they can't wait. They haven't done international adoption but they haven't ruled it out. All of the children they have adopted have been older children, it seems everyone wants babies so they wanted to open their home to the children no one seems to want.
