What's going on with me this week
This is a personal note to all my readers who care about what is going on in my personal life.
Let me tell you, there has been A LOT going on - a lot of stuff around educational issues with the public schools and on behalf of my kids with handicaps.
I intend to fill you in completely on all of it as soon as I get this article finished. I promise.
I walk around all day with thoughts of stuff I want to write about here and at The MizReport. But. alas - these first two weeks of school have been very demanding as challenges have arisen that I never foresaw and which in good conscience I couldn't ignore. They involve discrimination against children with handicaps and their parents - as well as confusion in the public schools about spiritual elements in the fine arts program. I have spent a lot of time writing on these issues - and I will share everything with you as soon as I come up for air.
In the meantime, on a light note, I took a break Tuesday to meet Becky Miller and her daughter Katherine. Becky was visiting DC from Rhode Island to do a shower for her best friend, who happens to be marrying her brother (isn't that cool? can you imagine being that close to your sister-in-law?).
She took Metro and I drove an hour and we met in the middle - at a Starbucks in Fairfax. Though Becky has only one child so far, she and her husband have sent their picture in for the Filling Our Quivers album because they've already decided to show trust in God's provision when it comes to the size of their family (I know some people don't like that phraseology, but the negative side of the coin - deciding against trying to control the size of their family - just doesn't capture the fact that these couples are not so much denying popular wisdom as embracing an uncertain but exciting future.
We had a wonderful time, even though it was only an hour and a half or so. Both of us had our cameras and we asked another mother to take our picture. Hers turned out best :)
I can't tell you how much it means to meet you all in person when I can. Please notice - in my sidebar Where Is Barbara? - if I'll be out your way and let me know if we can meet. Or if you're in DC, let me know. I live 25 minutes from Dulles Airport.
In the meantime, pray for me to finish this article so I can write in more depth about the stuff that's really been on my mind.

Thanks again for making time for me! One thing in particular you said stood out to me. When we were talking about one-year-olds and how to mother them and you said that the mimicking Katherine is doing now is a form of obedience. By watching what I show her to do and repeating it, she is learning to follow directions and obey me. That took such a weight off my mind...what a beautiful and natural way to start training her well.
I wrote about our visit here.
I can't wait to read all the forthcoming posts that you mentioned. I hope you'll show pictures of the Downzers playing with their new swords.

You know, I had to attend a workshop near Sterling this summer, and wondered how appropriate it would be to contact you. Now I know! I'll be looking forward to hearing from you on the blog when you get the chance.

Barabara,
I would love to meet you someday!! You have become a household name in our home! LOL I talk about you with my husband as if you were a close friend! :-) We sat and watched Brian Regan at your blog last night and just laughed and laughed!!
And, I second what someone said about you looking good in the photo -- congrats on all your weight loss! You have been an inspiration to me! So far I have lost 30 pounds! I have another 60 pounds to go.
Anyway, thanks for your blog -- I read it every day (and Miz Report too)!
Blessings,
Beth
