Mothers Day/Fathers Day: Adoption photo album

Roberts%20feet.JPG

Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me

You all know how committed I am to adoption (if not, then type adoption into my personal Google on the righthand sidebar :). Of my 12 children, 3 are adopted. And we're waiting with our daughter Samantha and her husband Kip to welcome our first adopted grandchild into our crazy, mixed-up family.

I've met so many wonderful people on the Internet who've also taken the leap of love and faith we call adoption. This year for Mother's Day and Father's Day, I'd like to start an online photo album we can share with the world.

Last year I did a special album for Mothers' Day: Our Little Extras, filled with portraits of mothers who'd been blessed with children with Down syndrome. You can see it here:

Our Little Extras: A Mother's Day Down syndrome celebration

The Our Little Extras Album is always in progress, so you can send me your own portrait any time to be added. This album touches many lives as when parents receive a diagnosis and begin their struggle to receive it, they go a-googling and often find this link at the top of the list. I wonder if seeing the actual kids makes a difference in saving lives. . .

This year I'm hoping the Adoption Album will reach people's hearts as well. If a picture says a thousand words, then a hundred pictures will say a hundred thousand.

We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life. But those who make their journey home across time & miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands.

If adoption has been part of your family's journey - or your own - please send a picture of your family to me with a maximum 220 word caption on how adoption has changed your family's lives.

This will be in celebration of Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day 2008. Like the Our Little Extra Album, it will always be a work in progress, but I will unveil the first photos on Mothers' Day and the expanded edition on Fathers' Day.

Please don't wait - send me those photos so we can get started in time for our big day!
