Maddy confirmed as Catholic
From one big event to the next.
Yesterday: Sophia's graduation.
Today: Maddy's confirmation/First Communion
Note the sweet white lace dress we found for her to wear. I wanted it to be special for her. Tripp bought her a Daily Missal. rosary, and a St. Cecelia medal. Melissa, her sponsor, who is standing behind Maddy (and who just had her first baby) gave her The Story of a Soul: the Autobiography of St Therese di Lisieux.
Maddy chose St. Cecelia as her patron saint because she is the patron saint of music.

Congratulations Maddie!
Confirmation is such a special gift of Grace!
As the Holy Spirit infuses your soul, He will help you to find so many ways to use the tremendous gifts that you have been given.
The gift of music is really one that has to come directly from God, and I know that you will bring so much Joy and Beauty to so many people as you give it back to Him.
God Bless you always.

Perhaps I'm a little hormonal right now, but those photos really touched me. I got a little lump in my throat. Your daughter looks elegant and simple and sweetly fitting for the occasion.
Thank you for sharing these aspects of your life with us Barbara, I find you a great inspiration and encouragement. A life following christ is a great adventure isn't it? Who knew it would lead you here?
Congratulations, best wishes and prayers for every blessing for maddy on this special occasion.

Congrats, Maddy! What a special day! I've heard that the autobiography of St. Therese is really inspiring, too.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm reading Frederica Mathewes-Green's Facing East, and find the church calendar year and the saints so interesting.

What a beautiful child of God Maddy is!! Congratulations on all of it! At Saint Cecelia Church in Rome, Italy--oh, what a lovely church--there are statues of the Blessed Mother, Saint Therese, and Saint Frances Cabrini--an interesting collection of very strong, beautiful women! Maddy should resolve to see it some day.

That is so great. I'm Anglican, born and bred (clergy runs in my family - brother, uncle, father, and paternal grandfather plus many more generations). I waited to be confirmed until I was 17, because I wanted to be sure I was really ready for all that it meant for my faith.
I found the reference to St Cecilia particularly interesting. What a great patron saint! We don't have those in the Anglican Church, but if we did, she would be mine as well. Well, her or the Apostle Peter (he's my favourite). I actually have a gorgeous plaster plaque of St Cecilia, given me by my father's sister. It's one of the items I'm keeping safe until I'm able to set up my home prayer table - where Cecilia will watch over my prayers each day.
Congratulations, Maddy, and good for you for making sure you were getting confirmed because YOU wanted to! My parents also allowed us to choose when we were confirmed, and I think it made it more meaningful for all of us - I'm the oldest of four.
