Create a more serene and pleasing atmosphere in your home - and calm down kids - by using soft classical music as a background. I've been relying on this favorite for years. |
|
While not a kids' book per se, this volume is very effective in contrasting lives of families in different countries in a way children can understand, planting seeds of compassion and - hopefully - generosity. |
|
Again, a book for the family to inspire less self-centered living and more compassion for others. |

I have not used this myself - a reader recommended it. but reviewing their site and the user reviews at amazon, it seems like these folks have come to the same conclusion I did on my own weight loss journey (75 pounds lost in 2006 and still off today) - that gluttony is a spiritual issue and needs a multifaceted approach: a no-compromise diet, exercise, getting real spiritually and allowing God to work on the areas in which you need to be set free. |

This is one of those very pretty gift books with short chapters. But Stormie has made every word count. There's no fluff here - just good solid advice to revolutionize your Christian walk. Read full review here. |

Too busy for a Bible study? Any mom can start a no-pressure devotional life with this NIV (New International Version - a more modern translation than King James) Bible, sprinkled with devotions by Elisa Morgan, founder of MOPS. "In these thought-provoking devotions ...you'll see how clearly the Bible speaks to the big and not-so-big issues only mothers understand- and how it faithfully provides inspiration and wisdom to help you not only cope but truly enjoy being a Mom." |

This book explores the three arenas of spiritual warfare that the maturing Christian will face: the mind, the church and the heavenly places. It provides a foundation of insight, wisdom and discernment on the nature of the battle and the keys to victory. |

by Beth Moore. On 2/2 I will begin attending a women's group at church studying this important book. |
|
I love hymns! If you've never gone to a church where hymns are a staple, you will find as you listen that they are full of faith and worship - much more substantial than praise choruses. Our family's been listening to this recording for years. |

This is a powerful movie of sacrifice and redemption told through the eyes of Steve Saint, son of Nate Saint, who along with Jim Eliot and three other missionaries was killed in jungles of Ecuador. That was not the end of the story, though, as Elisabeth Elliot and Nate's sister Rachel went to live with the murdering tribe to teach them the reality of forgiveness and redemption. A riveting portrait of faith to watch and discuss with children eight and up. |

Another great reference tool for parents, this book uses not just proverbs but verses from all over the Bible to instruct, comfort, and encourage fathers (and moms can learn from it too). A hundred topics listed under the headings Your Attitude, Your Child, Your Wife, Your Work, Your Daily Schedule, Your Finances, Your church, and Your Personal Needs. |
|
An invaluable reference arranged by topic, so parents can look up something like obedience, pride, honesty, giving for a complete list of the proverbs pertaining to it. |

Henri Nouwen's incredibly perceptive analysis of Rembrandt's famous painting by the same name is one of my all-time favorite reads. |
